As an REO agent I often have to check vacant homes and determine if the GAS is on or off, and for some reason I can never remember which way is on and which way is off. I know all about Righty Tighty Lefty Loosy. For the Electrical panel it is OUT is OFF and In is On ( 3 letter and 2 letters) But to this day I have not come up with a trick to remember the gas line thing. HELP please

I checked in here hoping that I would learn the answer - I cannot help you....
It's OFF if the lever is at a 45 degree angle to the gas line. ON if it lines up with the pipe. Think of it as if the lever were scissors-- 45 degree angle looks like you are 'cutting' the line-- cutting it OFF.
Rebecca I like that -- cutting the line make it look like open scissors
Eric - Here in Austin, it's off if the handle is crossing the line at a 90-degree angle, and it's on when it's "in line" with the pipe.
You're right, Jason -- 90 is 1/4 of 360. What I lack in math skills I make up for in enthusiasm!
